Michigan Families Deserve Better
Parenting Time:
Michigan vs. The Nation
Full 50/50 Shared Parenting States: Only four states in America have fully modernized their custody laws with a true 50/50 shared parenting presumption: Kentucky, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Florida. These states begin with equal time as the default, and any deviation requires clear, evidence‑based justification. This approach reduces conflict, protects children’s relationships, and reflects what modern families actually need.
States with Modernized Court Systems (Bias Reduction + Accountability): Three additional states have upgraded their court systems to reduce judicial bias and strengthen accountability: Arizona, Utah, and Minnesota. While they have not yet adopted full 50/50 parenting time, they have implemented improved evidence standards, transparency requirements, and consequences when bias affects outcomes. These reforms are meaningful steps forward — steps Michigan has not yet taken.
